2 Thessalonians 3:14-18

Please read: 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17 and 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18.

Define the following words:

  1. 1. Admonish ( 2 Thessalonians 3:15 ):
  2. ...to correct, warn and/or advise in good temperance towards someone you care about. And doing it in love with an intended benefit. > Hebrews 12:6

  3. 2. Peace ( 2 Thessalonians 3:16 ):
  4. this can be a peace like no other. It can even be discerned as being a type of prayer/plea for those in the faith of Jesus Himself to endure and rest in Him since He is the prince of peace. > John 16:33 - Philippians 4:7 - Isaiah 9:6

  5. 3. Grace ( 2 Thessalonians 3:18 ):
  6. ...here I see ( as I do in several other places in the bible ) that the word "GRACE" refers more to the power that comes by Grace, that the Lord gives us to withstand all things, including death as long as we stand fast in it. 2 Corinthians 12:9

In 2 Thessalonians 3:14 Paul instructs the Thessalonians how to respond to the disobedient believers.
In Matthew 18:15-20, our Lord instructs His disciples how to respond to a brother who sins. Please read these verses and explain the application for us: > I feel that while similar the advised instructions for reacting to brothers not obeying or walking in the behavior Paul is teaching here is layered. 1. By the scriptural steps laid out in these verses but distinguishing a difference between walking in ignorance and error as opposed to knowing and ignoring the ways he is teaching. In the latter case I believe verse 14 is the prescription advised for that behavior.

Why did Paul make it a point to mention his official signature in verse 17? ...that possibly being out of fellowship, a type of shunning ( if you will ) he might come to his senses and return, first to the Lord and the faith and then to his brethren in good standing.

What does Paul remind the Thessalonians of in verse 18? ...this can be a controversial topic among scholars and pentacostal brethren today but a mild guess may be that how we walk, behave and carry ourselves, by Faith here on earth, so it is or will effect the powers and principalities that are constantly vying to influence and win us over to sin in the heavens?

Bill Landman's Take on Vs. 18: > In simple terms, this means that when people make rules or decisions on Earth (the things we do here), they should make choices that are in line with what God wants in heaven (where God is). So, when they say something is right or wrong here on Earth, it should match what God believes in heaven. It's like saying we should make good and fair choices that follow God's ideas.
